Dream of private school for girls ends all too soon
Cathy Sheafor's dream for a tuition-free private school that immerses low-income girls in arts and culture has crashed against the reality of tight money. Charlotte Community School for Girls, which opened in August in a storefront south of uptown Charlotte, will close for good June 10. Operating on a "shoestring" budget of $150,000 for the first year, Sheafor said she was too busy teaching and organizing volunteers to raise money to sustain a faculty and keep the school alive.
