Editorial: Education propaganda meets reality in classroom cuts
The story of Rep. Bill Owens and 26 teacher aides laid off in his poverty-stricken district would be laughable if it didn't involve so high a human cost. Owens, a Pasquotank County Democrat who voted for the 2011-13 Republican budget, was stunned to learn that the aides were laid off after the budget he supported deeply cut education funds.
