ISTEP+ cheating suspicions arise

In city after city across Indiana – from Madison to Fort Wayne, Gary to Tell City – teachers are suspected of cheating to improve students’ scores on the state’s accountability test. As the ISTEP+ becomes even more important – affecting teacher pay, graduation rates and when the state takes over failing schools – the number of pending investigations into testing irregularities has reached 19 this year, which is higher than usual and could potentially affect thousands of test results.
