Larger class sizes may result from education budget shortfalls

Bigger class sizes and few­er working days for teachers could be in the works as a remedy to fill the projected shortfalls in the state's 2012 education budget. The state Department of Education is asking for a 5.6 percent increase to make up for just a portion of the feder­al stimulus dollars public schools are going to lose after this year and to pay back money the state borrowed to pay for the replacement of school buses.
