Philadelphia schools say voucher bill could cost them millions
Philadelphia's public schools officials said at a hearing Tuesday that they could lose $40 million in state funding next year if a school-voucher bill being considered by state lawmakers is approved. The hearing came as lawmakers in Harrisburg continue to debate a bill to create a voucher program, which would let students from low-income families attend private or parochial schools with the aid of government-funded vouchers.
