Districts brace for voucher vote
Here was the plan for Nittany Christian School fourth-grade students last week: They would cover chapters 13 and 14 of “The Whipping Boy,” take a test on division and, in science class, study sound waves. They were also assigned to memorize a Bible verse — from the Book of John — and were expected to discuss how the Holy Spirit’s purpose is to indwell, empower and instruct individuals. Those last lessons are part of the reason why some educators, school board members and legislators have objected to a proposal, now making its way through the state Senate, to provide school vouchers in Pennsylvania.
